Emmy Nominations Released

By Mark Lorenz on July 8th, 2010

This year’s Emmy nominations have just been released, and it’s a mixed but predictable bag.

If there were a television show that’s emerged the clear front-runner to last another ten years and turn stars out of its cast, it’d be Glee, Fox’s high-school singing phenomenon. In addition, it garnered one of the highest number of Emmy nominations, including for stars Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele.

But the leading nominee, of course, was The Pacific. Anytime Steven Speilberg and Tom Hanks collaborate on anything, you can expect that someone will drive by with an award. They can’t even eat out at restaurants anymore, because random passerbys will pelt them awards, and that’s no way to eat a sandwich.

Newcomers to the nominations include Modern Family and The Good Wife. Saturday Night Live surpassed the most-nominated record held by ER, and now has 126 nominations total. Mad Men came out as the most nominated drama, with 17 different nominations. Jimmy Fallon is hosting the ceremony, no doubt in a desperate attempt to draw attention to his own television show. And if you want to know how biased the Emmys and Hollywood can be?

This was the first year Entourage wasn’t nominated for anything. That means for five years or so, they’ve thought it was the pinnacle of television programming.

HOW IS IT THAT "FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS" DOESN'T EVEN GET NOMINATED? IT'S THE FINEST DRAMA ON TV.
