You can’t make this stuff up, folks. This is a real headline from a real news agency (Reuters). Here’s a link to the actual article so you can see for yourself. (It’s possible the headline will be edited at some point, but right now it’s exactly as shown in the picture above.)
To be fair, there was no way the writer could come up with a headline that wasn’t chock full of innuendo. Gay beaten by Dix. Dix Slips Out of Gay’s Reach. Can’t do it. That said, you have to believe that the writer was giggling like a schoolgirl when he turned this in to his editor. It’s professional enough that he won’t lose his job, but it’s dirty enough that we can all see it for what it is.
I also particularly like this part of the article:
“It wasn’t bad, but I was a little fatigued toward the end,” Gay said. “I tried to stay relaxed and bring it home, but it wasn’t enough.”
