Spain Defeats Germany To Advance To World Cup Finals

By Mark Lorenz on July 7th, 2010

In what will be looked at as one of the most exciting games in this World Cup, Spain has defeated Germany.

I was unaware all this time that they have an octopus picking who will win World Cup games – named Paul — and it apparently guessed correctly in today’s match-up, picking Spain to route Germany. To me, that’s the best indicator of where sports commentary is in contemporary society – it can be done by an eight-legged invertebrate. Spain has had one of the best football squads in the world for years now, winning 2008’s Euro tourney over Germany, and today was no different. They managed to pull off a goal in the 73rd minute, with Carlos Puyol scoring off of a header from a corner kick. Spain managed to shut down the German offense and dominate possession – even without many minutes clocked by star striker Fernando Torres.

Now, Spain will meet the Netherlands in World Cup final on Sunday – with both teams never winning the golden statue. There will be parties in Spain tonight – parties which sadly won’t include replicas of World Cup trophies made out of cocaine.

There will be chaos on Sunday. Guaranteed. Not Los Angeles style chaos — where dumpsters are tipped over and Taco Bells set alight, but there will be many babies born 9 months from now.

There are some attention-grabbing time limits on this article but I don’t know if I see all of them heart to heart. There is some validity but I will take maintain opinion until I look into it further.
