A baseball fan lost his balance last night and fell from the second deck at Rangers Ballpark on Tuesday night, while trying to catch a foul ball. The unidentified fan was taken to hospital. Four other people with minor injuries were treated at the ballpark.
The incident happened along the first base line during the bottom of the fifth inning during the Ranger’s game versus the Cleveland Indians. Video of the incident was not broadcast, however, gasps from the crowd, announcers and umpires could be heard as the accident happened.
“It’s a tough scene at the ballpark right now,” one television announcer said just after the fall. Another stated that he saw the fan try “to grab the railing of the suites below his deck but couldn’t.” Other witnesses report, “he cartwheeled through the air and fell to the field deck about 30 ft below,” reports WFAA.com.
Josh Lewin, the announcer for the Rangers did say that the fan who fell was “stabilized, responsive and moving all extremities.” The game resumed after a 16-minute delay.
Oh- and the Rangers beat the Indians 12 -1.
