If there’s been a series of comedies that have been more anticipated and appreciated than Ben Stiller’s Meet The Parents series, I don’t know them.
Seriously. Those movies must’ve grossed close to a billion dollars combined, and were previously the biggest comedies in the world before they were usurped by the dude love-in that was The Hangover. It was the last movie Barbara Streisand felt like she had an obligation doing, so that has to count for something. Once Babs is on your set, you know you have a hit.
Butt the next installment of the beloved series is set to introduce Gaylord Focker’s children. Meet The Little Fockers has a release date of December 22nd, and it looks to be virtually identical to the old movies. As in, Greg Focker still can’t impress his father-in-law, and keeps getting kicked out of and trying to re-enter the circle of trust. They’ll have DeNiro act tough, Blythe Danner be understanding, and will bring in Jessica Alba and Owen Wilson to the fray.
Meet the Parents was released a whole ten years ago, with Meet the Fockers coming out in 2004. So the third installment has taken six years to get underway.
Proving that once again, Hollywood would much prefer to make movies over a six-year-period than one based off an original idea.
