Remembering Michael Jackson: Thriller Video (Watch!)

By Heather on June 25th, 2010

He was one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived.  Even in death, Michael Jackson’s music has continued to inspire and unite people around the world.

Arguably the most lasting mark Jackson has left on pop culture is the video he created for the song, Thriller.  The merging of film and musical elements in the video has continued to influence the majority of music videos even today.

Heralded as the ‘Most Influential Video of All Time,’ the Thriller video (which won 2 Grammys and 4 MTV Awards) is also the first music video ever selected for inclusion in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

We chose to remember Michael by posting his Thriller video today, but there are many other tributes taking place to honor the late King of Pop.

Jackson’s hometown of Gary, Indiana will be holding a candlelight vigil at his family’s former home. Fans are also expected to gather where Michael is buried – Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale California – for a memorial. Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother, has given her blessing to a tribute concert, Forever Michael, scheduled for the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday. Partial proceeds from the concert will be given to the Jackson Foundation and the singer’s favorite charities.

The official Michael Jackson website is also allowing fans to post their own special messages of tribute to the star.

Michael Jackson, may you rest in peace.
