Lawrence Taylor has been formally indicted on rape charges following an incident in which he allegedly hired an underage prostitute. The NFL great was arrested in May at a Holiday Inn outside of New York City.
According to The Ministry of Gossip, Taylor is being charged with two class “E” felony counts – third degree rape and a third-degree criminal sexual act. Other counts include class “A” and “B” misdemeanors, such as “endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree patronizing of a prostitute, plus two counts of sexual abuse.” In the state of New York, sex with a person under age 17 constitutes third-degree rape.
The indictment alleges that Taylor had both intercourse and oral sex with the teen, and paid her $300. However, The Hollywood Gossip reports that LT’s defense is going to deny any sexual contact, stating that Taylor merely masturbated in front of the girl.
Lawrence Taylor insists that he thought the prostitute was 18 at the time, and had no reason to believe she was in fact underage. Taylor’s wife, Lynette, has said that she believes her husband was “set up.”
Taylor is currently free on $75,000 bond, and could face up to a maximum of four years in prison if convicted. His hearing is scheduled for July 13, 2010.
