The 110th US Open Golf Championship is underway, and the weather at Pebble Beach is absolutely perfect. It just tends to be that way on the Carmel Bay.
All the talk this year is about Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson–can Phil win it, and will Tiger the golfer show up? Regardless, ESPN is carrying coverage of the Open for a cool 7 hours today.
Live coverage began at 10 a.m. PDT/1EDT, will play for two hours, break for the necessary phenomenon known as SportsCenter, then resume at 2 p.m. PDT/5EDT and push toward the sunset. The two hours in between the mass of ESPN coverage will be covered by NBC.
The play at Pebble Beach is extraordinarily beautiful as the sun begins to fall into the sea. If you’re looking for the best HD viewing, as well as the most complete recaps on the day, tune in towards the end of the broadcast.
If you’re stuck at work and are hoping to catch a little something online, you can find a few cameras displaying continuous action on ESPN3, or you can zip over to the US Open site, grab updates on leaders, scores and hole by hole statistics. At present, Soren Kjeldsen is playing a solid opening round, sitting at -3 through 10. As I wrote that, I watched Phil Mickelson follow up some bogey action with a shot into the marsh. Looks like he’s gonna go classic Phil here in the opening round–trying to do too much too early.
Regardless, the action continues through Sunday, when the 2010 US Open Champion will be crowned. Here is a TV Schedule of the Event.
Tiger Woods will tee off at 1:36 p.m. PDT with Lee Westwood and Ernie Els.
