People Are Having Problems Growing Up

By Mark Lorenz on June 17th, 2010

A new study says that adulthood is a longer time coming than most people would like. Specifically, your parents. Stop swallowing your Micro Machines.

With economic conditions the way they are and women deciding to get pregnant later and later, more and more young adults are delaying financial independence and deciding to figure out what they want to do with their lives. You know what’s not helping? The recent glut of independent movies where indecisive twenty-something’s are celebrated instead of maligned. Once you’re near 30, if you have no idea what you want to do with the rest of your life, you should stop and consider moving back in with your mom, to warn people away from you.

Nobody wants to be paired off with someone who has is going to spend their time waffling through life. Even if they’ve got a really amazing collection of action figures and has achieved all the unlockables in GTA.

Another reason for the increased inability of people to grow up? Marriage and having kids are now viewed as lifestyle choices. Don’t feel bad. Carrie Bradshaw didn’t want them either. The median age of marriage is now increasing, and motherhood is being delayed across all demos.

Good. It’s better to take some time thinking about things than rushing into babies. Just make sure you don’t live at home, and you have a job.

I can't imagine why this trend continues... with most parents placating their children well into their mid-20s to "chase their dream." People think I'm hard on my kids because they have to do chores daily, help around the domicile and only earn a dollar/day allowance to buy their stuff... And if they don't do their chores they don't get paid. I know. Cruel. Accountability. I even make them read instead of watch TV and play video games all hours of the day.
