iPhone 4 Preorder: A Disaster!

By Heather on June 17th, 2010

iPhone 4I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you were able to pre-order an iPhone on Tuesday you may want to check your order status (and for the next few months pay close attention to your credit card statements).

Gizmodo.com has received quite a few comments from users claiming that a glitch in AT&T’s ordering system has exposed credit cards and shipping information during the iPhone pre-order process – meaning that orders were made with the wrong credit card and address.  Couple that with orders that users thought they placed but never actually made it into the system because of overloaded servers, and Apple better start preparing for an even more chaotic launch day next week.

Gizmoto reports that wrong shipping information is even being used by both AT&T and Apple to send brand new iPhones to the wrong people.  So even if you didn’t actually order one, you should check your mailbox for a brand new iPhone 4 next week – it could be your lucky day!

Ultimately, if you did pre-order an iPhone 4 on Tuesday (or at least, think that you did) it would be wise to make sure that all is well before the phone’s official June 24 launch date.

You talk about how AT&T and Apple goofed up the iPhone order. Your article says iPhone's official launch date is June 15th. It is actually 24th.

I guess that after this horrible situation with iPhone 4 pre-orders people should understand: 1)You shouldn't trust AT&T pre-order sistem (according to some source AT&T never tested the system that it used to accept those orders) 2)Going to store is a good idea(coming to a AT&T store on pre-order day is a better than trying to compete with millions across the US on the Web)
