British Tabloids are blaming England goalie Robert Greene’s recent breakup with model Elizabeth Minett (right) for his blunder in England’s recent 
game against the United States at the World Cup. Obviously soccer shots aren’t the only thing Robert has trouble hanging on to!
According to Yahoo! Sports Green met the Canadian model while playing in Toronto with his club team, West Ham, versus the Major League Soccer All Stars. His team lost the game (Green let in 3 goals) but he managed to win Minett’s heart, and she accompanied him back to England.
Three months ago, the beauty seemed excited to support Rob as he traveled with England to play in the World Cup. “I am looking forward to cheering on Rob at the World Cup in South Africa, although nothing has been finalized yet,” she said. Unfortunately the couple parted-ways before the tournament would begin.
However, despite reports to the contrary, Green’s Agent assured The Mirror on Sunday that the breakup has not taken the goalie’s head out of the game. “This really is not an issue and Rob has gone into the World Cup prepared mentally and as focused as possible,” he said.
After apologizing to his fans and England for the infamous mistake, Robert has been seen enjoying a day off with team mates on the golf course.
England’s next World Cup game takes place on Friday against Algeria. No word has been given on whether Green will once again get the start in goal, or if one of the backups (David James or Joe Hart) will take his place.
There was no excuse for what Green did or in this case didn’t do (saving a shot that any amateur high school student could have stopped) during the game versus the US. These are some of the highest paid athletes in sports today, maybe there needs to be a change and player have to actually earn their salaries. Bring on Algeria and hopefully Green redeems himself.
