Jesus is on Fire! Literally! (Watch!)

Monroe, Ohio’s 62 ft tall statue of Jesus was struck by lightning last night and subsequently caught fire. Seriously. Now, I’m not overly religious, but that can’t be a good omen. When lightning comes down from the sky and hits JESUS – no one is safe. Watch the video below.

The statue, which stood outside of Solid Rock Church in Monroe, was known affectionately as “Touchdown Jesus” as his raised arms looked similar to the signal a football referee makes when a team scores a touchdown.

Initially called, “The King of Kings” the massive Jesus statue was built in 2004 and quickly became one of southwestern Ohio’s most recognized landmarks.

The steel frame was all that remained of Jesus early this morning, when the fire was put out. Fire from the statue spread to a nearby amphitheatre, but was confined to the upper area of the building. Thankfully, no one was injured.
