I was watching a Dean Martin roast the other day and marveled at the level of comedic talent that shared a stage, which might not ever be surpassed. Comedy Central is going to roast David Hasslehoff.
This is good. If there’s anybody who has a place in pop culture that’s pretty much secure, it’s David Hasslehoff. And not only here in the United States, but in Germany, as well. Everyone worldwide loves David Hasslehoff for the sense of authenticity he brought to running around on the beaches without a shirt, and for clutching burgers whilst drunk without a shirt, and everything that he’s brought to the world, he’s pretty much brought without a shirt.
That will all be celebrated on Comedy Central. They’ve had great success recently, roasting well-known C-list celebrities from TV, such as William Shatner, Flava Flav, and Bob Saget, so they plan on continuing that tradition so second-tier comics who somehow get headlining jobs will be able to make fun of the fact that David Hasslehoff is a recovering raging alcoholic and known for being on some of the most awesomely bad television shows in history.
So, you know. Jeffrey Ross should be awesome at that. He has experience with substances and terrible television shows.
