MTV Movie Awards Is Big Bowl Of WTF

By Mark Lorenz on June 7th, 2010

MTV once gave the illusion that it was actually cool. But it was never actually cool. You just remembered it being that way, because that’s what MTV did to your brain.

But now? NOW? Did anyone watch the MTV Movie Awards? I dare you to wrap your brain around what the hell you saw. It was hosted by a virtual nobody comedian, Aziz Ansari, whose recent Comedy Central special ranks among the worst ever broadcast and had a variety of performances that would make you go, “WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL WAS THAT?!”

Included?

Les Grossman introducing the show as a 2-hour shit. Which, in a way, it was.

Tom Cruise dancing with Jennifer Lopez to Ludacris.

Christina Aguilera showing off her light-up vagina.

Aziz Ansari doing his best impression of R. Kelly, despite the fact he couldn’t sing.

Twilight winning every award under the sun.

Maybe my memory is off, but when I was a wee teenager, and MTV aired their specials, I didn’t think that they were completely off-base and out of touch. They occasionally had a few good performances, and excellent comedy sketches intercut between things.

But if you happened to watch the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, you witnessed one of the greatest displays as to why entertainment today is down in the tubes.
