Gary Coleman 911 Call Audio (How Not To Save Your Husband’s Life)

By David Woods on June 3rd, 2010

Gary Coleman died last week. Lots of people made jokes (and I like to think that Gary would have been cool with that). Here’s something that’s not even close to funny. It’s the audio of the 911 call that Coleman’s ex-wife (they still lived together), Shannon Price, made as Gary was dying. Have a listen:

It’s stunning to hear how Price speaks to the 911 dispatcher. She sounds unbelievably selfish, refusing to administer first aid to her dying ex-husband because she finds it too gross (she mentions being that blood makes her gag). She makes excuses, saying that she isn’t feeling well and has to look after their dog. “It’s all bloody and I’m not trying to do it,” she says, when implored by the 911 dispatcher to apply pressure to Coleman’s wound.

In the call, Price mentions her dying ex-husband 34 times. She talks about herself 53 times.

We obviously don’t know for sure, but it sounds like there’s a good chance that Gary Coleman would still be alive today if his wife wasn’t more worried about getting blood on her hands than caring for him. Absolutely disgusting.

It’s possible that this audio will lead to Price being thought of as a suspect in Coleman’s death. What we know is that Coleman suffered a mysterious fall and his wife found him but refused to help stop his bleeding. She then decided to pull the plug when he was on life support. We also know that Price has been arrested for domestic violence in the past. You can put the pieces together however you want, but it certainly sounds a bit suspicious.

Kudos to the 911 dispatcher for remaining so calm and logical. It can’t be an easy job to have to speak to hysterical people in emergency situations all day long (particularly when some of them are as awful as Shannon Price).

To help you get a better idea of the relationship between Coleman and Price, here’s a clip of their appearance together on the television program Divorce Court:
