Rookie MMA fighter Jarrod Wyatt killed and mutilated his sparring partner and friend Taylor Powell in what can only be described as a bizarre and disturbing case of murder.
After drinking psychedelic mushroom tea with Powell and two other friends, Wyatt, a 26-year-old mixed martial arts fighter, was apparently convinced that the world was about to end and that Powell, 21, was the devil. “Satan was in that dude,” Wyatt reportedly told Del Norte County Police Sgt. Elwood Lee, who responded to the scene.
According to seriously grisly reports (brace yourselves) Wyatt had beaten Powell severely, drilled an 18-inch hole into his chest and removed his heart, tongue and most of his face. As if mutilating wasn’t enough, Wyatt then put Powell’s severed body parts into a wood stove and cooked them, because he thought Powell was still alive.
In what sounds like something out of the worst kind of slasher flick, when police arrived, Wyatt was found naked, standing over his dead training partner soaked in his victim’s blood and surrounded by body parts. One of the tea-drinkers, a woman, hid in a bedroom through the whole bloody attack, and the other left on his own trip but returned to the gruesome scene only to flee to call police from a pay phone.
Wyatt was arrested and charged with first-degree murder — he appeared in court Tuesday, but did not enter a plea. His lawyer’s comment? “My client was trying to silence the Devil.”
Obviously this case has nothing to do with MMA, and here’s hoping that the sport’s critics don’t try to connect any ridiculous dots between a violent, drug-fuelled psychotic break and the sport of mixed martial arts. Jarrod Wyatt’s only professional MMA match was in January, when he defeated Seth Stanfill in Resurrection Cage Fights.

drugs mess with some people in a bad way ... it is a chemistry thing ... i have to feel like i am dying to take pain killers b/c they make me feel aweful ... and some give me nightmares ... hallucinogens are several steps up from there ... and are not to be toyed with!

Holy hell!!! Was he really that far gone (on just shrooms) that at no point during this onslaught, some small, still semi-sane part of his mind took a step back and said 'whoa... this s**t is f***ed up... something is wrong here.'? I mean, yes, I understand that different people react differently to mind-altering substances, but this seems a bit overboard for just shrooms, even if he was drinking in conjunction with that whack tea. *shakes head* Maybe the straightedge kids are onto something, even if they look like tools...

Just too bad its gonna give both MMA and mushrooms bad press. Know this: drugs can for sure be dangerous if not used carefully, but this is not about the drugs, its about a completely and utterly broken mind. Has anyone considered the fact that they guy must have had some serious equipment to dismember his "friend"? Sounds premeditated to me. Wyatt looks like he has no soul in his picture and I would think that the man was psychotic to begin with. Psychological profiling is a must. I think he just drank the tea to make the experience more appealing to his sick mind and justify his actions. This is not typical behavior under the influence of this substance by far for any sane human. Would think that this guy should have been in a mental institution and on medication.

Turns out I was right. Officer Lee said Wyatt didn't appear under the influence. Perhaps he made "friends" drink tea so that their testimony would not be believed if cops got involved as they have. Powerful doses of nearly all psychedelic substances have the potential to induce a psychotic break in an ALREADY mentally unstable individual. There is a difference between an over the top trip and a psychotic break. I would assume this guy was already dealing with major mental health issues (him being aware of them is another question) and using too much of a hallucinogen induced a psychotic episode. Psychosis + tripping your balls off and well...poor Taylor Powell...RIP.....If your hallucinations begin to torment you, address you directly or seem all together too real; wether drug induced or not, that is not hallucinating, that is a psychotic break. Know yourself.

Bullshit, it wasn't the fucking drugs. I'm sure it was the combination of all the steroids he was taking and his deadly martial arts training. Shrooms do not make people react this way, my friend actually saw the devil on shrooms on time and all he did was break into a church and sleep their all night. This is what happens when you start experiencing roid rage on psychedelic drugs. The fact that he's a trained fighter only made problems worse. Mandatory drug testing for people who have the power to murder with their bare hands? I think so.

if you are having a really bad trip on mushrooms you wont be able to do all that ive experienced hell on mushrooms and i couldnt move because i was tripping so hard my friends though i had died. if you do happen to kill someone on mushrooms it would most likely be that you beat them to death not what this guy did and you would only do it if you are in immediate danger. what this guy did would have happened regardless of any drugs being taken also on a side note if he did take mushroom tea the it was really weak if he was sober enough to do all that he did to his friend. if a high dose is taken you will not understand how to use most things lke ovens tools even phones and thats if you can even get yourself to move
