Hurt Locker Producer Sues BitTorrent Users

By Mark Lorenz on June 1st, 2010

Let’s say you’ve produced an Academy Award winning movie. And that movie is the lowest grossing Academy Award winning movie of all time. Would you be very happy for the accolades, or would you sue BitTorrent users?

Unfortunately if you’re even remotely technologically literate, this is a sad day for you. Because Voltage Pictures has decided to sue 5,000 unidentified BitTorrent users. Which means they’re going to try to subpoena the ISP’s for the identity of people who have downloaded the movie. Which means if you downloaded The Hurt Locker just to see if it kinda sucked or if it was more watchable than Avatar — you will have  to pay the price.

Since the laws that govern intellectual property are so loosely enforced, they fine people to create a fuss and to scare people into not doing it anymore, but the floodgates are already open. 75 percent of the companies have handed over their users’ ISP’s, and the remaining 25 percent are dragging their feet because it’s too much work.

Those 25 percent should be heralded as heroes, but what do I know? I’m just another faceless voice on the internet. Here’s an idea, Voltage, why don’t you sue your film distributors, because I knew of maybe one theater in my area that played your Academy Award winning movie? And nobody has managed to point that out?

Pffft. Hollywood.

Great...another internet article writer by an idiot. I was thinking there might be a shortage of those. Here is a reality check... if you downloaded the film illegally, you broke the law. IT DOESNT MATTER IF THE FILM IS GOOD OR NOT. Stealing is stealing, it is in fact, that simple. Every excuse I hear or read is just that, an excuse to steal.

"Reality check" lol they say you can download but if you sell it then you are breaking the law. but regardless of who and how many times you sue a person or company, these p2p sites will and can not be stopped! so Hollywood should just suck it up an move on..... there will always be someone one step ahead of the laws. So on that note Dmarch... take your mouse and shove it up your ass and have some fucking respect for others and last but not least go comment on someone who might care what you have to say fuckin doch
