How BIG is the Gulf Coast oil spill? What does a bajillion gallons of oil look like? A Google Maps widget exists that can clear that question right up for you.
In response to the spill and its impact, Google Maps genius, Paul Rademacher, tossed an overlay of the oil spill on a Google Earth Map and shared it with us over at paulrademacher.com.
To see the size of the spill in relation to your area, type in your city name — the shape and size of the spill will overlay onto the map. And it is scary as hell.
Lots of folks are PISSED about the BP oil spill and the sheer cluster-f***ery with its handling by the government. But lots MORE people will clue in to the magnitude of this shitstorm when they can frame it up in visual terms.
Share this information. Donate your hair, your pet’s hair, call the goddamn BP we-ran-out-of-ideas-and-will-try-anything tip line. Do something!
But first, check out the map overlay — you’ll need to download the Google Earth 5.

I have been concerned about what will happen to all of this oil once the 2010 hurricane season arrives in the Gulf of Mexico. Of course the seas will get whipped up into a frenzy, and should one of the hurricanes pass over where the oil is collecting I felt that surely some of it would be sucked up into the developing storm. My first place to visit for information on this was the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration web site, which told me categorically there would be no oil in rain related to a hurricane. I was dissatisfied (dare I say distrustful?) of that seemingly blasé comment, so went searching further for information. http://just-me-in-t.blogspot.com/2010/05/its-raining-its-pouring-but-will-it-be.html

I HAVE BEEN IN TEARS EVER SINCE THIS THING HAPPENED. I wonder if someone's pipes burst in their basement, would THEY STAND THERE AND WATCH IT FLOOD FOR A FEW DAY "HMMM WHAT SHALL WE DO??" OR JUST THROW SOME RAGS DOWN, WHILE IT CONTINUES TO GUSH? I know, how bout we call someone over then STAND THERE WITH 16 OZ CUPS AND TRY N CATCH IT, WHILE DEBATING WHO'S G.D. FAULT IT IS! !? This is Killing me, and God's creatures too. We are destroying our planet.

I WOULD'NT PUT TOO MUTCH BLAME ON THE OBAMA ADMIN... B.P. FAILED TO REALY TELL HOW MANY GALLONS WAS BEING DUMPED(YES DUMPED)IN OUR OCEAN,RIVER,GULF STREAM OR LAKE. WITH A BAJILLION GALLONS ALL WILL SUFFER! IF ONLY THEY (BP) WERE TRYING TO PUMP THE OIL OUT OF THE WATER INTO TANK(S) WHILE TRYING TO FIX THE LEAK; MABY THE OIL SPILLED WOULD HAVE BEEN ONLY HALF OF A BAJILLION GALLONS. WHO KNOWS??
