Slipknot Bassist Found Dead

By Mark Lorenz on May 24th, 2010

Slipknot has always been a slightly morbid, morose band baiting their fans into wearing masks and listening to heaviness. But they filled a void that metal lacked for years – shock and cacophony on par with Slayer.

Unfortunately, Slipknot’s bassist, Paul Gray, was found dead at a hotel in Urbandale, Iowa at 10:50 am. Nobody deserves to go out that way. Under lists of great rock n’ roll deaths, nobody wants to go out in Urbandale, Iowa. People want to crash cars, drown in seas of groupies, but hotel rooms in Urbandale, Iowa? It’s just sad. Paul was 38. He was one of the two original founding members of the band, and one of the only two members who were not born in Iowa.

Slipknot had a string of successes in the early oughties, including 2002’s “Iowa”, 2005’s “Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses)”, and 2008’s “All Hope Is Gone”. They had most recently just ended touring arenas, and the members were starting to work on other side-projects starting this summer.

No foul play is suspected. Toxicology tests are being ordered. Gray was previously arrested in 2003 on drug charges.

Either way, however he died, it’s been a sad month for metal, with Dio’s passing and now this.

RIP.

This is a smart blog. You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses. You have got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as big as what youre saying. Great job, indeed. Business Logo Design
