Metal faithful, join forces. This is your time to do the world a favor. In what has to be the stupidest move in the world, the Westboro Baptist Church is going to picket the funeral of Ronnie James Dio.
Come on, WBC. This is a man who sang about riding tigers and pummeling down devils with his bare hands, you really think you’re not going to get hit in the face by a guy holding an elf with spiked leather gloves and a hair down to his knees? You are sadly, sadly mistaken.
The Westboro Baptist Church is a group who preaches their skewed set of morals, despite their leader, Fred Phelps, having a bad drug addiction, and their current leader…..uh…ess having a baby out of wedlock. Basically, they’re hilarious in theory. In practice, not so much, but if you told me that there was a group going around, protesting people after they died to raise the ire and anger of their loved ones and family, I’d laugh incredulously. But they’re real. They’re real people.
But picketing Dio’s funeral, you’re asking for hell’s flames to rain down on you. And by hells flames, I mean the fists of large, angry white people.
Which is what I hope happens.

If anyone does decide to go against them please do your homework on them first. As crazy as they are, they are experienced in this and are good with this type of thing. Beating them senseless will only get you in trouble, and them a feeling of misplaced pride.

Im glad to only be one a few deciding to even give this one a comment. Dio fans worldwide know when they are being baited to react and give legitimacy to a "church" few have even heard of until today. As parishioners of our church so to speak, we will collectively take the high road and instead focus our energy on celebrating and saying goodbye to a man who by many personal accounts lived a life demonstrating traits that are indeed rooted in the Bible.

As much as these guys deserve a smackdown to end all smackdowns: 1. We know it's not what Ronnie would want at his memorial. 2. It's not what his widow, Wendy Dio, or any of the rest of his family want at his memorial. 3. We are well aware of the fact that it IS what the WBC people would LOVE to see at Dio's memorial. Publicity, lawsuits, proving their point-- and ruining the funeral of a great man far beyond what they could have done alone. 4. I'm sure the media would love us to instigate a full-on riot to boost their ratings, but they can go jump in a lake. Thus, as satisfying as watching a thousand metalheads beat the living crap out of the Phelps clan would be to --well, just about everyone-- Dio's memorial is neither the time nor the place. As much as we would love to rain hells flames down on these creeps, I fear you're going to have to look to someone other than Dio fans for your hit of sensationalistic violence this Memorial Day Sunday.

I wish I could go and pay my respects. And if I were there, and saw some jackass screaming about religious beliefs, I would sock him in the mouth so fucking hard. You know these religious fucks need to learn a thing of two about respect, and I hope whoever does go, teaches them a lesson. If not we can all star showing up at churches yelling how Christianity is a piece of shit. They don't see us do that right? So why the fuck do they keep bugging US?? Show them no mercy and stick those signs up their asses. May Ronnie James Dio, a metal legend, rest in peace. He will lie in our hearts for ever.

It makes me very sad that at a time like this, not only are mourning someone who meant a lot to us, but now we have to deal with these people who feel this is ok. Dio's music helped me get through my teenage years. My bf killed himself when I was 13 and Dio was one of the three musicians I relied on to make me feel better about this world, and he did. To me Dio was more than just a musician. He was a poet, a philosopher and he had a voice that made the angels on earth rejoice. I will miss him very much. May you rest in peace Dio. Ignore the idiots that want to make us angry and rage. Let's all just celebrate the life of a man who was exceptional.

dio rip forever i lived in sacramento for a while and these nut cases picketed schools. but had to come back coz the weather was to bad for them i guess these religious jerk offs are not down for anything but publicity,dio was a genius and a wonderful human being just ask anyone who worked on the hearing aid project.not a ass wipe like these protesters. i hope ronnie rocks heaven for eternity and these so called Christians rot in hell til the end of time.dio will be missed but these fools will be not even be remembered.
