No Doubt Start Recording New Album

By Mark Lorenz on May 14th, 2010

I don’t care if this excites no-one else. No Doubt is recording an album. This is exciting news. Really exciting if you like keytars and girls who do push-ups onstage. Which EVERYONE does.

You know, authentic SoCal ska. That sound that was smashing around 1996-1997, before Bradley Nowell OD’d on sunshine, and heroin. That California sound that everyone around the country cranked. I didn’t know a single person that wasn’t absolutely in love with the album Tragic Kingdom. Then, like a sexual encounter with a man in a Sasquatch costume, things got a bit weird. Ric Ocasek brought his frightening horse face in from The Cars and changed their sound. Completely. To mesh with Gwen Stefani’s pop streak. And we got songs like Hey, Baby, and Hella Good. THAT was in 2001. And now No Doubt is stepping into the studio to record their first album since then. In Hollywood. That’ll probably sound like songs from the eighties had sex with a beach and gave it a keyboard. And then had sex with a keyboard. Which would be difficult.

So get your stereos ready, kiddos. Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal and company are all coming back. To rock your ears. Harder than Stonehenge. I have no idea what that means.
