It’s finally happened. If only for a moment. Saturday Night Live has finally become relevant in contemporary times — for more than just clips, and election-year sketches.
All because of one old lady and a massive internet campaign. That’s all you need to change the world is an old lady and the internet. Also, isn’t kinda weird it took THAT much to make SNL notable? Maybe if they listened to the internet more often and stopped hiring shit actors from the UCB, they’d be able to pump up their viewership.
Betty White brought a unique blend of sass and grace to the ailing dinosaur of a show – and it played out like SNL’s greatest hits. Included in the show? SNL’s Census Worker, with Tina Fey and Betty White playing out the roles that Christopher Walken and Tim Meadows played before, and the delicious dish, with Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon reprising their iconic characters, with White introducing her special brand of muffin. Her old, dusty muffin.
To complete the event, SNL brought back their treasuretrove of talented female alumni, including Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer, and Tina Fey. The ploy worked wonders for the show, scoring SNL their highest ratings since November 1st, 2008.
So, go Betty. If you can actually make people pay attention to SNL, your next logical progression is making cripples walk again.
