Have you ever gone to visit your grandparents, and wished that they could do things they used to do? Like bench press you, then run 11 miles? There might be hope for them yet.
Despite the fact that the words grandma bodybuilder are the freakiest that can be spoken in the English language, other than pregnant baby, there are some out there. Waiting to break your face with shuffleboard accessories. Birdwatching by wrestling down the condors and vultures that are slowly circling overhead. Capturing chipmunks by ripping trees down from their foundation. Ernestine Sheperd is one of those people. She’s morphed herself in less than 20 years from a saggy-bodied grandma, to an unstoppable killing machine. A killer of age stereotypes, she trains women at the United Memorial Methodist Church in Baltimore. She runs 80 miles a week, trains with weights, runs about two-three hours, posed for Essence magazine. Oprah Winfrey even booked her on her show to talk about what it’s like constantly knowing that you could beat the crap out of the Golden Girls on a daily basis, but unfortunately, 9/11 happened.
So watch the video. And marvel how a 73-year-old woman can look the way that Ernestine does. She’s basically a GILF. With a good heart.
