Steve Carell To Leave The Office

By Mark Lorenz on April 28th, 2010

Steve Carell is the best part of The Office. If he were to leave, there’s no telling what NBC would do.

Being that the executives there think that good ideas constitute shows like A Minute To Win It — or anything involving Christian Slater — I can only assume that they’re going to replace his character, Michael Scott, with a gigantic talking goat. Who will spend his days chewing on Dunder Mifflin’s paper, causing the office staff to try to rebel and slay him and roast him. The sort of thing only the coke-fever dreams of Ben Silverman could produce.

Anyway, The Office has been steadily declining in quality since about season four, where they decided to make it all about Pam and Jim’s romance instead of relishing in the unresolved conflict it generated. That quickly devolved into babies, Michael Scott acting more stupidly, without a balance of pathos and generally everything a show can do to try to willingly jump the shark.

Steve Carell has noticed this. And is probably going to bow out to pursue other interests. Like films with Tina Fey. He’s revealed this during the promotional tour for the movie Date Night, to a British radio station.. All I can say is, godspeed. And I hope the show doesn’t get cancelled so Rainn Wilson can continue getting a paycheck. Because Rainn Wilson is the shit.

I strongly disagree with this. I've been watching The Office since the first season, and have seen every episode to date. During Season 5, I was nearly begging NBC to cancel the show, because it felt like they were dragging my fvorite comedy through the dirt. But halfway through the season, when Michael formed his own company, the show took on a new life, and has been getting progressively better since then. I'm glad it's picked up again, and look forward to the continued progression of the show.
