Are you sick and tired of reading about the iPhone 4G? Here’s some smartphone news that has nothing at all to do with Apple. Research In Motion (RIM) announced today that the BlackBerry Bold 9650 will ship out on May 23 to Sprint customers. It’s still unclear whether the phone will be available for Verizon.
The BlackBerry Bold 9650 is basically a better version of the very successful BlackBerry Tour. It’s also very similar to the Bold 9700, which is already available for AT&T and T-Mobile.
Gone is the trackball, which many people found annoying because it acted as a lint magnet. In its place is an optical trackpad. More importantly, the BB Bold 9650 is WiFi enabled (a feature that many BlackBerry Tour users wanted really, really badly). This capability allows users to limit their data usage (which can become quite expensive if you use your phone to download files or stream video).
Like the BlackBerry Tour, the Bold 9650 comes equipped with Bluetooth, GPS and a 3.2 megapixel camera.
Finally, like the Tour, the Bold 9650 can be used around the world, making it perfect for businesspeople and vacationers alike. The Bold 9650 supports Sprint’s 3G CDMA network as well as international GSM and HSPA networks.
BlackBerry Pearl 3G
RIM also made an announcement about the BlackBerry Pearl 3G at WES 2010 today. For now, it looks like this phone will only be coming to Canadian carriers (Rogers, Bell and Telus). Remember that RIM is a Canadian company, so this shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.
