Awww, come on, Comedy Central. If we had to censor all of your programs in order of most likely to receive death threats, I think Carlos Mencia should outrank South Park at least by a little bit.
I mean, every time I go out I threaten to kill Carlos Mencia. It’s a time-honored drinking game I share with my friends. South Park has always made a point to push the envelope, to be shocking, and generally be one of the ballsiest programs on television. So naturally, they’ve made some enemies. Enemies that threaten to stab them like Dutch filmmaker, Theo Van Gogh.
In South Park’s 200th episode, all of the people who they’ve offended over the years come to sue the town. This includes a cadre of characters from Rob Reiner, to Barbara Streisand, Sean Penn, Asian people, and, of course, Mohammed. Because showing Mohammed is a dangerous proposition, South Park’s creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker put him in an adorable bear outfit. But adorable bear outfits don’t placate crazy-ass Muslim people. As Abu Talhah al-Amrikee wrote, listing the addresses where Stone and Parker live and work …
Stone and Parker will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show.
It’s sad when crazy people are so angry, they have no idea what they’re really angry about. But if Matt Stone and Trey Parker are killed by Islamic fundamentalists, I will declare a jihad against Islamic fundamentalists. And so will the millions of other South Park fans.
To appease the crazies, Comedy Central wound up censoring the episode, replacing Mohammed with Santa Claus. Cause that makes sense.
