Yet another day that should be an official American holiday. Happy NFL Draft Day, everyone!
The mock drafts are out in full force, and every NFL fan is painted with anticipation. I know I am, are you?
At this point, I’m so exhausted with the chatter, I’m just ready for the sucker to get underway. The broadcast this year will take on an completely different dynamic, taking place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Instead of the marathon draft day, the NFL is taking the draft to primetime. The draft will be spread across three days: Round 1, tonight; rounds 2-3, tomorrow evening; rounds 4-7 on Saturday morning.
Everyone benefits from this. Fans, coaches, franchises and most importantly, the young players who will enjoy the opportunity to be considered and reconsidered, especially if they’re floating on the bubble.
The 2010 NFL Draft gets underway this evening/afternoon, depending on your coast at 7p.m. EDT/4p.m. PDT. There’s buzz floating through the ballroom, even now, 4-plus hours from go. Rumors are that the college standout, Tim Tebow, may have new interest from Denver, and that could make the first-round shakedown fairly interesting.
Nearly every respectable mock-draft, including draft guru Mel Kiper’s, has the St. Louis Rams taking Oklahoma QB, Sam Bradford with the first pick, followed by the Detroit Lions and Nebraska standout, DT, Ndamukong Suh. No doubt there will be a few surprises in the mix. And just a reminder to my fellow Saints fans–we pick last. I never thought I’d say that. I’ve got my fingers crossed that Sean Weatherspoon slips through the cracks and somehow lands in New Orleans.
