Let’s just say — hypothetically — you were running a multi-state drug ring off of the money you’ve got from your rich parents. Granted, this a large hypothetical. You probably have more sense than that.
Let’s say your absentee father raised you in such a way where you go addicted to heroin and didn’t really care, then started dealing meth, and then you were busted by the DEA. You’d be screwed, right? Mandatory sentence of at least 10 years right?
WRONG.
Cameron Douglas had this exact situation happen to him – which is ironic, because a Michael Douglas movie, Traffic, dealt with the consequences of negligent parenting in rich suburbia resulting in kids turning to drugs. Catch is, he only got five years. Is it because he’s rich? Because he’s white? Maybe it’s those things. Or maybe it’s because Pat Riley and a cadre of other rich white dudes sent letters to the judge pleading for leniency. I so wish that I was rich enough that Pat Riley would be able to write me letters pleading for my freedom after I dealt meth across state lines. That’d be great. So Cameron only got five years in prison. Which will be awesome, considering how his Douglas looks have held up.
He’ll be popular.
