Cirque Du Soleil + Michael Jackson = VEGAS, BABY

By Mark Lorenz on April 20th, 2010

With the onslaught of musicals based off of old music – it’s easier that way, you don’t have to sit down and write anything – it was only a matter of time before they caught onto the circus. And the latest? Michael Jackson.

Eschewing any jokes we could make about Michael Jackson’s life and music being a circus, it’s apparently what the late artist wanted. He visited Cirque Du Soleil’s headquarters in 2004, and said, AND I’M QUOTING.

I’m an acrobat myself.

To me, this is probably the quote most indicative of Michael Jackson’s insanity. That he was trying so hard to relate to people that he was claiming he was an acrobat. Beyond thinking that he was perpetually 11, surrounding himself with toys and whatever else he could buy, supposedly having liaisons with boys who were still old enough to think that his music and only his music was amazing – he thought he was an acrobat. Which will put him in good stead when Cirque Du Soleil launches their Michael Jackson show. The show will start late next year, and move to a permanent residence at the MGM Mirage.

So hopefully you can all enjoy another wave of lionizing nostalgia.
