Survivor Producer Arrested

He has a name. And the story is sad on so many levels.

Bruce Beresford-Redman was taken into custody by Cancun police, after his missing wife, Monica Beresford-Redman, was found dead in a sewer at the luxury Moon Palace resort hotel–the same resort at which the couple was staying. The Mexican media have reported that she was strangled.

After being questioned by authorities, Bruce Beresford-Redman was released, yet is not allowed to leave the country.

Beresford-Redman was a long time producer on the hit reality show, “Survivor,” and has also worked on shows such as MTV’s “Pimp My Ride,” and ABC’s “Crash Course.”

A missing persons report was filed at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office by Monica Beresford-Redman’s family, after there had been no contact from her beyond Monday of this week. It is unclear at what point Bruce Beresford-Redman filed a report in Mexico, but he was working with the search team to find his wife.

What a mess, huh? It gets worse.

According to Monica’s sister, Carla Burgos, Bruce was having an extra-marital affair, and his wife recently found out. A security guard at the Moon Palace also stated that he saw the couple in an argument that looked less than civil, earlier in their Mexican getaway. Regardless of the speculation, the official report states that Monica left the hotel on Monday to do some shopping, and she never returned. She left a few belongings in the room, such as her cellphone, but had taken her credit cards with her.

Sure, every American know-it-all has already convicted Bruce Beresford-Redman of murder, but let’s be honest, Mexico in 2010…? If you’re vacationing anywhere in the country, the buddy system is imperative. I wouldn’t go anywhere by myself if I didn’t look like an indigenous local. In terms of this tragedy, I am hopeful the Mexican authorities will offer justice to Monica, and a rare example of due process with all northern eyes upon them.
