Those of you who have been following the career of the poster girl for geek wet dreams know that Olivia Munn was originally cast in “Iron Man 2″ as … somebody. A cameo of some sort, playing a someone from the Marvel universe. We don’t know who, but whoever it was apparently ill-suited for the tone of the film, so Munn’s scenes were cut from the flick.
However, director Jon Favreau liked Munn enough to want to keep her in the movie, so he recast her as … someone else … and her scenes are now being shot for inclusion. So who was she originally, and who is she now? The referring story has a number of intriguing options, including Madame Masque, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, and Rumiko Fujikawa. Considering the fact that the role is a cameo, some of these choices are a little outside of believability, like the Scarlet Witch. The post asks readers to vote for their favorite, and the winner will … be the one that guessed correctly.
Of course, Munn in the article just says “from the Marvel universe”, not necessarily from Iron Man canon. So really, it could literally be anyone. What’s your best guess? Do you go with Munn’s Asian ethnicity as a clue? She also mentions that the original role was lighthearted, so do we assume that this one would be more serious? And finally, do we even really care at all? Because I’d rather not be really into the movie, then suddenly get pulled out of it by “Oh, look, there’s Olivia Munn”. That position’s already taken by Stan Lee, who apparently has to be in every friggin’ Marvel film that will ever be made. Can’t wait to see him as an Asgardian for the Thor film.
