At the recent ShoWest convention in Las Vegas, Female Star of the Year award winner Katherine Heigl (known lately for her role on “Grey’s Anatomy”) was embarrassed by her own wardrobe malfunction when her left dress strap popped apart, nearly exposing her breast. Fortunately (for her), she managed to cover up before anything too raunchy for television (who are we kidding?) occurred, and the night’s emcee Billy Bush stepped in to gallantly help Katherine keep her modesty.
The accompanying video to the news shows Katherine giving a mini-interview to E! before her official acceptance speech, in which she says she might have felt something snap, and apparently she did. So it was a good night for her, but a letdown for her pervy fans. I’m left wondering how this happened in the first place. It’s not as though she’s particularly busty, nor is her dress really that tight. What snapped? Did NASA construct her outfit?
It might just be my imagination, but there seem to be more and more of these “malfunctions” (see, doesn’t that sound like NASA lingo?) recently. In the vein of “no such thing as bad publicity”, “accidentally” exposing your breast is not necessarily the worst thing that could happen to an up-and-coming young starlet: the world suddenly ups and takes notice, even if they had been unaware of you up until that point, and the actress in question gets to maintain her dignity by saying “oops, it’s not my fault!” We all win! So let’s make it perfectly clear: more malfunctions, please. I’m talking to you, Scarlett!
