Marvel has been searching high and low for a proper actor to portray Captain America, to add to their ever-expanding fold of superheroes. And they’ve finally found one. And America collectively went… “Who?”
Captain America is one of Marvel’s most valued properties, with comics featuring or relating to him selling in excess of 210 million copies in 75 different countries. People all over the world love Captain America. Even in places where they normally hate America. In places where they burn American flags in effigy, they sit on the sidelines reading Marvel Comics.
The search for Captain America led Hollywood through a number of actors, including Dane Cook, John Krasinski, and Chris Evans. They finally decided on Chris Evans, an actor who already portrayed the Human Torch, leading some people to ask, WTF? Are we that short on new actors that we have to double up on them playing superheroes? Between Chris Evans and Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool AND the Flash? It’s bad enough that Hollywood is pretty much out of ideas, but they can’t be out of actors too, can they?
Then again, if they were considering Dane Cook, John Krasinski, AND Chris Evans, chances are the script will be awesome. And by awesome, I mean made of putty. Murrika.
