From time to time I’ll become aware of a movie that somehow managed to slip in under my radar, and get really excited about it. Being the generous soul that I am, I’ve created this feature to share it all with you, O Constant Reader. To wit: Robert Rodriguez’s “Predators“.
First of all, take a look at the track record of Mr. Rodriguez: “El Mariachi”, “Desperado”, “From Dusk ‘Til Dawn”, “Sin City”, “Grindhouse”, and the upcoming “Machete” and … “Sin City 3″? The point remains: the man knows how to make good, fun action. This new movie seems to be a reboot of the Predator universe, with Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, and — YES! — Danny Trejo appearing.
This time around, a bunch of badasses — “mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members”, according to the Trailer Addict page — are dropped onto a planet that turns out to be a hunting zone for the Predator race, and go. Really, I didn’t need much more than that to get all hype, but Rodriguez, in the embedded sneak peek, promises that we’ll be seeing a new type of meaner, tougher Predator than before. Can you feel the love?
See, this is what I go to see movies for. A romp, a spectacle, some delicious ultra-violence — you know, good clean fun. And on top of all that, this movie is coming out in July? I really need to get rid of that rock I sleep under, because I had no idea any of this was happening.
