Census Required Answers

By James Sheldon on March 16th, 2010

What’s this? We have to answer questions on the Census? It’s a legal obligation? Really?

Honestly folks, it’s kind of like jury duty. If you don’t turn it in, you could be in trouble. The likelihood? Hmmm–comparable to being struck by lighting, maybe? I really don’t know. And I don’t know what the punishment would consist of. Truthfully, I’m not going to research it right now–or ever.

However, I can tell you this: When you don’t fill out the forms, your local and state governments will lose funding. Seriously. Now, are you interested?

The United States Census was instituted by the American Founding Fathers, and is part of the U.S. Constitution. When states are begging for more funding, an accurate Census is one of the most valuable tools for distribution. Where is the United States government getting this money? I can only assume China. Then again, if we can use money from China to build more schools, then heck yeah, I’ll fill out my census! I’ll do my part. No, it doesn’t work that way, but sarcasm certainly does.

Let me pause for the cause, and set my satire aside for one sentence.

These required census questions are questions you will know the answers to!

Name. Age. Are you white bread, wheat bread or rye? There are 10 of these questions–easy as pie. Along those lines, if you’re an illegal, I would not suggest using this as an avenue to join the American public force. If the Founding Fathers were still in charge, no doubt, you’d be a welcome addition! And no doubt, there would be no planes to fly into buildings. Fortunately, and unfortunately, a lot has changed in the last 234 years.

Get ‘em in people! Uncle Sam says so.

You are only required to answer how many people are in your household. Nothing else. The government spends too much money already.

First thing - if no one turns one in - then all funding is done and maybe federal govt can start to heal - we have no money for these programs anyway. We will all be equal then and have to start funding these programs from our home areas. A GOOD THING. Second thing - I am looking for the question that describes my background as Irish, Polish or Italian. Called the census department to ask about this - i was told that they are trying to find how may Hispanics to help decide special benefits for that group. I do not believe that the founding fathers wanted a census to be involved in any such special interest issues. I will not answer this form until it it made special interest neutral.

LOL, the funny part in all of this, I guess, is that with all the crazy conservatives refusing to participate, they're only making it so their local areas get less money, and liberal areas get more. You'd think they'd be pushing for maximum involvement so they'd be fully represented (and thus stop money going to other "undesirables"), but then you'd be under the assumption that they actually think.

Will only be answering the first question. As far as the stupidity of "getting money from the federal gov't"! Have you forgotten the Fed Gov't has NO money. They do not generate a profit. Their money is OUR money, and we are already taxed enough thank you! I'd prefer not to share more than I have to to provide the Government with more of our dollars to spend as THEY see fit! Their spending habits suck and their financial expertise is lacking. "A governmet large enough to provide you with everything you WANT, is large enough to TAKE everything you have"- Thomas Jefferson

You guys, pause for a minute and think about this. How is not filling out the census going to save money? We have to do it, it's in the constitution, and they are trying to make it as cheap as possible. You answer ten questions, mail it in, and then it takes at most five minutes for someone to enter that data into a computer. On the other hand, if you don't fill it out, the census worker has to call you. If you don't answer, they have to go to your house. They get reimbursed for the mileage to drive to your house. They get paid twice as much as minimum wage or often more. They have to go all over town begging people to answer ten simple questions. Then they do it all again the next day. If you just fill out the form, then these people will be out of work faster, and the cost of the census will go down. Be smart people, and just cooperate.
