Who is Roxanne Spillett?
She’s the President of the not-for-profit, Boys and Girls Club of America.
Why is she news?
People who make little money are not often fond of non-celebrities making a whole lot more than they do. Celebrities can be tolerated, because they are the kings and queens among men. On the other hand, take the president of a non-profit entity, let’s say the Boys and Girls Club of America, and state that they’re a millionaire, and people simply won’t tolerate it. Especially Congressmen, who make less than she does.
Haven’t you heard? There’s a lot of money in non-profits, folks. Look at the televangelists bastardizing the teachings of Jesus Christ. Those dudes, and chicks (maybe?), are rollin’. No. I’m not saying all TV preachers and preachesses, but c’mon, “Send us money and we’ll pray for you?” That gift of prayer is expensive when the wrong third party is involved.
There’s just something that makes your skin itch about certain non-profits having so much money. Yes, the Boys and Girls Club of America is a wonderful organization. Let me repeat that: A wonderful organization. Yet, it seems to me that there’s more outreach to be done before a President’s salary should increase steadily over a period of several years toward seven-figures, containing bonuses busting the six-figure mark.
The leadership of Spillett should be called into question when her salary has enjoyed a steady increase, and local chapter directors are complaining of dilapidated facilities and fewer resources for outreach. BGCA is in need of a serious overhaul, starting at the top.
I’ll leave you with this: Your Uncle Sam has been giving to this organization for years. For some reason, I have a feeling it wasn’t to pad executive salaries and retirement packages, but rather for the development of our youth. Just a thought.

While (near) a million does seem a bit much for the top spot, especially for an organization low on funds (and receiving some public funding), I don't really see this as that big of a moral outrage. I mean, the banks received way more federal funding than BGCA ever has, and their third-level managers make more than Spillett in bonuses alone. Honestly though, how much federal funding is BGCA actually receiving?

I work for BGCA and the problem is the people that have been working there for years are still making minimum wadge when she is taking home so much money how is that fair? And the fact is we have had to close many clubs because we don't have funding... I think she is cut her salary for the kids... isnt that why you work for a non-profit?
