Natalee Holloway Murder Confession

By James Sheldon on February 23rd, 2010

punkassFive years, multiple leads, bogus confessions, case closed, reopened, more confessions–if we have learned anything from the Natalee Holloway tragedy, it’s that the law enforcement and detective work on the island of Aruba is comparable to a group of six-year-olds playing Clue.

The same suspect name is repeatedly associated with the tragedy: Jordan van der Sloot. His most recent murder confession came on a Netherlands radio station, the German-language broadcasting RTL. Yes, he has confessed before, and his story continuously changes.

In the past he has confessed to selling Natalee Holloway into slavery through a human-trafficking network, he has also confessed to dumping her body into the sea after an accidental death, and now he has confessed to killing her and hiding her body in the Aruban swamp marshes. This confession was made in August of 2009.

The interview for RTL wasn’t released due to strong doubts of its validity, yet the alleged confession piqued enough interest among Aruban authorities to once again reopen the investigation for the missing American teenager. Once again, these “authorities” found Van der Sloot’s confession to be full of holes, timelines that contradicted that of eye-witnesses and ultimately it set forth a mix of “lies and fantasy.” RTL is planning to interview Van der Sloot again sometime later this week.
