Jay-Z’s Brit Awards Bash Excludes White People

By Mark Lorenz on February 18th, 2010

Jay-Z-1Oh, club security staff. When will you learn that you’re not God?

The Brit Awards have been the talk of all sorts of the craziest moments in the music biz, currently. They got Liam Gallagher throwing his award into the audience, and pushing over a model backstage. They got Lady Gaga flashing her vagina . They got racially charged backstage areas. You know who we got? Adam Lambert, trying really incredibly hard to be interesting. That’s what we got. Beyonce doing a song and dance routine. That’s not nearly as interesting.

And what’s even more interesting? Jay-Z’s VIP area at the Brits afterparty didn’t let in white people.

Now, as a white person, I completely understand the need to ban us from events. After all, we may talk loudly about boring subjects, dance horribly, and use any possible  moment to mention how much we love Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and Mos Def. White people love Mos Def. But for the most part, we deserve to partake in after-parties. And according to other partygoers, Jay-Z’s security staff wasn’t having any of it. According to Kim Dawson, reporter at Britain’s Daily Star …

Jay-Z is a megastar and yet it was clear white people were not welcome in his VIP area. While the red rope was lifted for black guests to breeze through, let’s just say it stayed down if your face didn’t fit.

It’s ALMOST like Rosa Parks. Almost. But instead of buses and necessity, it’s douchey white reporters at a music event.

So there's one standard for Jay Z, but a different one for John Mayer? They have BET. What if we had WET? If they have NAACP, can we have NAAWP? We ought to have one set of rules....
