Bono is one of the most charitable celebrities in the world. Possibly on the planet. And he always wants you to remember it. You’ll remember Bono’s face forever, and if you don’t, Bono will come to you in the night, and haunt your dreams. Why aren’t you more charitable? Bono doesn’t understand. Why are you running from Bono? You need to come back and talk to Bono as he writes this song about forgiveness.
Anyway, AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, singer of some of the rockiest, strippiest songs in history, is completely unimpressed with Bono’s theatrics. Brian Johnson, by-the-by is completely awesome, having previously trashed a lot of modern music, and the musical CATS. That to me, is the greatest image you can get of incongruity. Of AC/DC’s Brian Johnson sitting, wide-eyed in the audience, as cats sing and dance around him, being completely unimpressed. Oh, god, I would’ve paid money to see that.
Brian went on the record by saying overt charity attempts are contrived and more about ego than helping people. Which I totally agree with.
When I was a working man I didn’t want to go to a concert for some bastard to talk down to me that I should be thinking of some kid in Africa. It makes me mad when people try to use politics or charity for publicity.
