Justin Mentell, who starred on the hit ABC dramedy “Boston Legal” was found dead on Monday, February 1, 2010, the victim of a single car accident. According to initial police reports, Mentell lost control of his Jeep Wrangler on a rural Wisconsin road, careened off the highway and onto a steep embankment where he hit two trees. His body was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sadly, the accident most likely took place around 3:30 a.m., and due to the natural surroundings, no signs of the vehicle or accident were spotted until a local farmer caught a glimpse of the Jeep in the sunlight at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Chief Deputy John Pepper, of the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stated, “It looks like [Mentell] had been there for several hours. There are a lot of trees in that area, so if you were driving on 39, you wouldn’t be able to see the vehicle. The farmer was traveling on Moscow Road after the sun came up, and he saw the Jeep in a field.”
There was no initial indication that drugs or alcohol played any part in the accident, and standard toxicology reports won’t be available for a six to eight week period.
Justin Mentell was best known for his portrayal of Garrett Wells on “Boston Legal,” from 2005-2006. A multi-talented individual, Mentell was an accomplished actor, musician, painter and a former member of the U.S. Junior National Speed Skating team. His most recent appearance on the big screen was in 2009’s “G FORCE,” released by Disney.
