At the crack of dawn this morning, the nominees for the 2010 Academy Awards were announced at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California. The Oscar nominations were presented by Tom Sherak, the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Anne Hathaway, the chick who got naked in the movie Havoc.
Avatar and The Hurt Locker scored 9 nominations each, virtually guaranteeing more awkward moments between self-proclaimed King of the World James Cameron and his ex-wife/better director Kathryn Bigelow. Both films were also among the 10 movies nominated for best picture. If that sounds like a lot of best picture candidates, it is. This is the first year that the Academy expanded the list of best picture nominees from five to 10. ![]()
Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin are set to host the awards ceremony on March 7.

This is going to be one of those rare years where the winner for best director doesn't take best picture. Director to Bigelow, Picture to Avatar. Trust this guy who's won his pool 3 years running.

It is an interesting list of nominees. I don't have any expectations so I'll have to just wait and see. I do hope that UP wins best animation pic.
