Sometimes former celebrities will simply vanish into the ether as new celebrities rise to take their place in the celebrity pantheon. Often they try to maintain their fame, but for whatever reason vanish into a drug and pill addled obscurity, unable to deal with not being adored by millions of random strangers. Other former celebrities, however, left for their own reasons, intentionally, to pursue other nobler interests. Here below are some of those.
1. Robin Leach

Robin Leach was at the height of his fame after his longtime run on the popular series “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.” He was asked by Steven Spielberg to play the lead role in his next seven films, but Robin declined, saying only, “There is more than this.” Two years later Robin was sighted working for the Peace Corps. While wiping caked dust from a young boys smiling lips, Robin Leach grinned his old, familiar grin and said, “This is who I am now. All that fame and glamor made me forget that every time someone lived that lavish a lifestyle, it meant that someone else had to go without. I wanted to be a part of that other world.” Robin then walked around a makeshift hospital for several hours, kissing all of the 140 foreheads of the young patients in the hospital, and fended off a tiger attack with nothing more than a small torch and a length of rope.
2. Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin never wanted to lead a life of fame, which is why in 1999 he took his money and vanished into obscurity as a beekeeper. He had always wanted to become a beekeeper ever since he was a young boy, watching his uncle, the only beekeeper in his hometown of Martinsville, Puerto Rico tend to his many bees. “I love having access to that much fucking honey. It makes me feel like a fucking king,” Ricky told some onlookers, while gently petting his favorite bee.
3. Scott Bakula

Scott Bakula is technically still a celebrity. But the truth is that he is anything but. When “Quantum Leap” was canceled in the late 90s, Scott Bakula tired of the vain, surface life of the celebrity, gave his twin brother Chet Bakula his name, and his life. Then Scott bid farewell to a few close friends and left Hollywood forever, blinding himself with a burning stone to walk central Asia as a Samurai master, defending the weak and the poor in exchange for shelter and every now and again a chicken or some grain.
4. Mayim Bialik

Well known around the world as TV’s “Blossom,” Mayim Bialik’s destiny was always far greater than that show. During the height of the series’ popularity Mayim was contacted by the Green Lantern Corps. They told her that Martian Manhunter had been kidnapped and reprogrammed by Darkseid to rule over Earth 4 and turn it into a world of super villains. She was needed by the Green Lantern Corps to become the Lantern of Earth 4, oversee that world, and stop Darkseid’s terrible plans from coming to fruition. When Mayim Bialik protested, saying there were talks of a “Blossom” movie in the works, the Green Lantern slapped her hard in the face and asked her, “What is more important? The fate of an entire planet or your piddling movie, girl?” The sting of that slap woke her to the worthiness of the cause, and she held out her hand, upon which was placed a Green Lantern Ring.
