Chris Matthews is the subject of internet buzz today. For saying stupid things. This is not news, but it bears repeating. Chris Matthews says stupid things. Pundits say stupid things. Let’s point and laugh.
President Obama delivered the State of the Union address last night. And not once during the entire thing was I putting together a joint windmill, taking hits off of it and musing about how far we’ve come with racial relations. Chris Matthews, on the other hand, might’ve been doing just that, after commenting that watching the State of the Union, he forgot Obama was black for an hour. Just for an hour. Presumably, after that hour, his reality came crashing down again, and he was acutely aware of the racial differences that divide us all.
The internet exploded after Matthews opened his mouth. Straight-up exploded. Twitter blogs were awash with his stupidity. Mainstream media pundits were not only doing their pundit thing with speeches, but with his haircut and verb choice.
Which begs the question, again, why do we have so many voices explaining the political spectrum to people? Do they think we’re that stupid? That we need forty different people explaining what it is that we just heard? People who think things like, “Oh, gee, I forgot Obama was black for an hour?”
I don’t think we do. Let’s find Lou Dobbs and poke him with sticks.
