Rain? On the SAG awards? Never! As a proud SAG member I’m always interested to see who gets the nod from the too-many-to-count union members who are never invited to the show, yet are allowed to vote without actually seeing the movies – seriously, we are.
On a beautiful Sunday in late January, the 16th Annual SAG “Actor” Awards went to genuine, real-life people, as opposed to 3D CGI race and human Avatars of Pandora. Many of the award recpients were powerful echoes of last week’s Golden Globes, and will no doubt serve as favorites for the upcoming Oscars.
While Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) and Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) humbly accepted their awards offered by their acting peers, Betty White stole the show and demonstrated once again why her appeal and popularity have spanned generations. Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, White strutted with a gracious confidence, while trading sarcastic jabs with her 2009 “The Proposal” co-star, Sandra Bullock.
Oscar favorite, Mo’Nique, continued her sweeping of industry and festival awards, for her transfigurative, tour de force in the emotional beatdown (seriously, I had to pause it and leave the room multiple times) Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire.
