Squirrel-1LET’S GET DRUNK. FOR THE SQUIRRELS.

If there’s one universally loved animal in the Midwest, nay, the continental US, it’s the squirrel. The loveable animal that permeates every aspect of our lives, lives in our backyards, steals our food, and irritates our dogs. I even met a lady in an Austin bookstore that called herself the squirrel lady and goes to venues all across the US performing squirrel songs. Not only did that random encounter make me love Austin, it made me love squirrels at least a 1000x more than I had previously.

So you need to ask yourself, how are you going to celebrate squirrels today? Are you going to set up a nice feeder and try to celebrate their existence? Feed them for days? Not sick your dogs on them? What will you do to celebrate the magnificent, wonderful squirrel?

I know what I’m going to do. I’m going to lay out in the backyard, and let the squirrels crawl on me. Become one with nature and their furry existence. Is this weird enough for you yet? We have a squirrel appreciation day. Take comfort in how weird the world is.

And celebrate them. Celebrate the squirrels. Because, where would we be without them?
