Spiderman IV Mercy Killed, To Be Re-Branded

By Mark Lorenz on January 12th, 2010

Spiderman-1Do you like Spiderman? Do you think Tobey Maguire did an amazing job filling those tights, and the creators of the series eschewed cheap narrative and gave you the meatiest part of the comic series? You’re about to be crushed.

Spiderman IV has been killed. No word on whether it was a headshot, or a stomach wound that made it bleed out slowly. The studio wanted to shoot for a May 2011 release date, and with mounting story problems, Sam Raimi couldn’t guarantee that he’d be able to meet the release date with a product he was comfortable with. So guess what happened. Just guess?

They’re going to re-boot the entire franchise. Or at least, try to reboot the entire franchise, and put Peter Parker IN HIGH SCHOOL. That’s right, comic book fans, did you think there was a property that could get away from the constant dumbing down and infantilizing nature of Hollywood? Why’d you think that? They’re going to reboot a franchise that’s been around not even a decade. I’m no fan of Spiderman 3, but if the want the franchise to at least succeed more than previously, it would be a bad idea to spit on all the fans that’ve stuck with it.

What are they going to do? Attach webs to Zac Efron and the Jonas Brothers? Lame.
