Netflix-1If there’s one thing that people have no idea what to do with in contemporary laws and marketing, it’s pirating. Pirating makes everything wonky. From the waters near Somalia, to the basements across America, everybody’s doing it. And who’s gonna stop it? You? No. But Netflix is going to try.

First off, Netflix is awesome. Any business that can kill Blockbuster — and their snotty movie attendants who have no idea who Fellini is and instead refer me to the work of Michael Bay -– has my vote of confidence. No late fees, you can get obscure movies, you can secretly slip photos of bears humping in the sleeves, and NO-ONE WILL TELL YOU IT’S WRONG. I’ve loved them for years.

Except for this new policy that they’re implementing. Netflix has cut a deal with Warner Brothers. Netflix is going to delay all new release material by 28 days, to give you more time to purchase their DVDs. Which isn’t going to happen. Because we’re all sensible people, and we’re going to download them instead.

The bad part? With Netflix caving to Warner Brothers, expect other studios to follow suit. So you won’t be able to rent anything. They’ll just strong-arm you into pirating them.

Who’s inventing these policies? Low-rent supervillains?
