Ahhh, Bernie Maddoff, arguably the most successful huckster of the 21st Century (even if we are only a decade in). Maddoff ran the biggest Ponzi scheme in history for almost a quarter century and bilked investors out of more than $65 billion during his run. Of course, once he was caught, Maddoff claimed to be “deeply sorry and ashamed.” Of course, it’s easy to be ashamed when you’re kicking back in your $7 million Manhattan apartment, trying to decide whether you’d be feeling more deeply sorry while kicking back in your $11 million Palm Beach, Fla. estate or your $1 million French chateau. Or your prison cell. Maddoff is currently serving a 150-year sentence in the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, N.C.
