Kanye West, in typical Kanye West fashion, has announced that Kanye West is going to hit the studio and make awe-inspiring Kanye West-like music. But he couldn’t do it without grand, sweeping hyperbole. That we will now make fun of. Come along with me.
Like I’ve said before, many times onstage, Kanye West says he’s the voice of this generation. Which makes sense. Because our generation is half-retarded and convinced we’re innovative. You ever see that sketch about the Thing That Wouldn’t Leave? I feel like that’s how Kanye West is with pop culture. It’s like, we get the sped-up soul samples, the collegiate-drop out level poetry, and that. We enjoy it for what it is. Once you start biting Daft Punk’s music, their stage show, and start making grandiose claims about how you used Jesus’ loin cloths to floss your teeth, and that sort of thing, that’s when it gets old.
According to Kanye, “So many rappers get worse as their careers stretch out, but true poets get better. We will follow in the footsteps of Maya Angelou, Gill Scott-Heron, and Nina Simone.”
I have a number of problems with this statement. Mainly because the paragraph before, he compared himself to Kobe Bryant, then was like, BLAMMO, Nina Simone. Like he’s some sort of multi-level genius. You use pro-tools, dude. You use them well. That’s about it. I’m not saying you’re not a poet, but I’m also saying Maya Angelou never wrote lyrics like “Gold Digger.” Which, believe it or not, is a good thing.
And 808’s sucked. Hard. You’re not exactly on an upswing.

Also you should know that Daft Punk sampled as well. "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" uses a sample of Edwin Birdsong's "Cola Bottle Baby". So it's fair game.
