Fox-News-1Fox News has posted a record year. That’s right, we Americans love psychosis and demagoguery, which is why professional wrestling is right up there with Fox News. We love the crazy people.

There are a number of reasons why Fox News has come out on top, but the reason that’s most obvious to anyone with a functioning brain is that news– real news– is boring. There isn’t any sort of whiz-bang Michael Bay kind of insanity that came with Walter Cronkite or Peter Jennings reading their reports, which Fox News saw and decided to change. Now we have yelling ex-alcoholic Mormons, a team of people riling populist bases, and a gigantic Wizard-of-Oz-like head in Bill O’Reilly.

Also, every nursing home I’ve been to has shown Fox News. Which means one thing: people aren’t getting up to change the channel.

Fox averaged 1.13 million viewers last year in primetime. This year the numbers are around 2.1 million. Which means people are either like me, and watching to see at which point Glenn Beck’s head will explode, or they’re raging against the liberal establishment.

Also, Nickelback were the best selling artists of the last decade, Two and a Half Men is one of the highest rated sitcoms of recent years, and Twilight had one of the biggest openings of recent years. Are you noticing a trend? We’re madly in love with crap. Or there’s a select group of us who are, who are making the rest of us look bad. Stop that.

Most people watch Fox because it is the only skeptical TV news today. It provides a balance to the fawning government coverage of the other legacy media. Stories appear on Fox days before other media reluctantly air them.

"Also, every nursing home I’ve been to has shown Fox News. Which means one thing: people aren’t getting up to change the channel." People don't have to - it's called a "remote control". And surprise, people still aren't changing the channel. I wonder why. "...or they’re raging against the liberal establishment." Kind of like how CNN "rages" against the "conservative establishment". Different sides, same token. Damn those teabagging conservatives! Now THAT'S quality, professional news reporting. I love it when news is criticized one way but not the other. Why is Fox News really pulling ahead in ratings over other networks? Oh, I don't know, maybe because it really is better news. Naw, it's gotta be "psychosis and demagoguery!" Seriously?
